WOLFPAC pull together to defeat Work Doers FC 4-1, get first win of Spring season...

Friday May 1st, 2009

It didn't look good for the team in Orange on Sunday morning, April 26th - Wolfpac hadn't seen a win in its last four games. Struggling to field a full team and playing a younger, fully staffed Work Doers side, the outlook was gloomy.

However, the 10 remaining mostly healthy players, plus one reserve put on a clinical showing of possession, finishing and defending that earned Wolfpac its first win of the Spring.

Owens, scoring one of his own also assisted in Woodruff's and Smith's third goals this season. Smith hits two from the penalty spot while Woodruff gets in behind the Work Doers defense on a perfectly timed through-ball.

A stout defense was also on display with two Lashbrooks, Boyett, Grambush and Quemada coming just a few minutes shy of Wolfpac's first shutout - tired legs couldn't get to a ball pinged around the 6-yard line before a Work Doer mid slotted home the final goal of the game.

Leading only 1-0 at the half, Wolfpac found ways to make the most of their opportunities in the second half, despite now only having 10 men - adding an additional the 3 goals that more or less took any fight out of the Work Doers team.

Plagued by a recent rash of injuries and one suspension Wolfpac was without five of its normal players for Sunday's match. This weeks upcoming game the team expects two of those players to return but it also has two others nursing injuries sustained versus the Work Doers.

In Wolfpac's week 3 Matchup the team was reduced to nine players after a red card was issued and another player fell to injury. The team however pulled within one despite giving up an own goal.

Roster size could be an issue this week when the team faces Haiduc Moldova on Sunday May, 3rd - 1 PM at Grasslawn park in Redmond. Haiduc Moldova (1-1-1, 4 pts) currently sits one spot below Wolfpac in the standings but has played one less game.
